Jason-1 exposure to South Atlantic Anomaly effects, measured during 2001-2004 period using the Doris ultra-stable oscillator. (Credits Cnes/CLS). The red area is where the Anomaly was in 2001-2004 but it has since expanded slightly northward to about 18° to affect the Dominican Republic. We received reports from residents on Aruba Island (19 miles off the coast of Venezuela at 12.7N, 70.7W) in 2008 of a strange malady which caused disorientation, itchy skin, vertigo, diarrhea and joint pains.
