A Pueblo man is broadening the meaning of an Amber Alert. It's called Amber Alert for Pets, and it's a new program that allows dog owners to help other dog owners search for a lost pet.

"If you've got a thousand people looking for him, your chances of getting your pet back are better, and what we want is every pet home, every pet," Amber Alert for Pets founder Bill Rozich said.

Amber Alert for Pets is just three months old, but its creator says it already has 700 members in the Colorado Springs area. The system allows pet owners to file a missing pet report, which is then posted on a website and emailed to any registered pet owner within a 50 mile radius of the missing pet's home. Amber Alert for Pets has offices in Pueblo, Colorado Springs and Denver, all of which check for missing pet reports 24 hours a day.

Rozich says he came up with the idea after losing his Labrador Retriever, Bobby. After searching for his dog, Rozich came across another dog owner, who offered to keep an eye out for his lost dog. After finding his dog, Rozich says he decided there needed to be a more efficient way to find a lost pet.

"I thought, this is the way you do it, people who own pets will help you, they'll take your phone numbers, they'll call you."
