Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI)
|
HOLLY NOTE: Every person should know how to protect him or herself in the event of a pandemic or bio-terrorism event and how to correctly decontaminate your body, and how to create a safe environment. If you live outside of one of the 72 designated cities to receive antidotes and that still aren't prepared know how to protect yourself. Stan and I live three hours from Denver. The chances of receiving the necessary treatment for a bio-terror attack or pandemic flu are slight if not zero. Colorado Springs, which has a metro population of over 600,000, is home to NORAD, Air Force Space Command (AFSPC), Fort Carson, the Air Force Academy, Peterson AFB and Schriever AFB. Numerous religious organizations such as Focus on the Family and churches also make their headquarters here, particularly Evangelical Christians. It is also home to Hewlitt-Packard and the U.S. Olympic Training Center and the headquarters of the U.S. Olympic Committee. Major defense employers include Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, L-3 Communications, Boeing, Harris, General Dynamics. Yet Colorado Springs doesn't warrant anti-bioterrorism measures while on the Top Cities list for terrorism. If you find yourself in a similar situation of getting "left off the map" by government and FEMA, understand that preparedness is up to YOU. |
The Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI) is a federally funded effort to prepare major US cities and metropolitan areas to effectively respond to a large scale bioterrorist event by dispensing antibiotics to their entire identified population within 48 hours of the decision to do so.
CRI Successes
* Enhanced communication and collaboration across state and local boundaries, resulting in optimal use of shared resources.
* Local and state planners have identified capability, strengths, and shortcomings through preparedness planning and technical assistance reviews.
* Availability of federal resources to local areas.
CRI Cities and Metropolitan Areas
CRI cities and metropolitan areas (MSAs) are selected based on population, geographical location, and potential vulnerability to a bioterrorism threat.
