Building Community Message: Who Are The Players?
MOTHER RUSSIA - THE ULTIMATE DOMINATRIX
Sometimes we forget Communism's ultimate goal is world domination.
They may have made (failed) forays into democracy and free enterprise,
but Russia has been Communist for scores of years. This leopard
has not changed its red spots nor has it deviated from its original
purpose. Philip Hoag, author of No Such Thing As Doomsday reminds us of a November 1987 speech Gorbachev made to the Politburo:
"Gentlemen, comrades, do not be concerned about all you hear about
glasnost and pere- stroika and democracy in the coming years. These are primarily for outward consumption. There will be no significant internal change in the Soviet Union, other than for cosmetic purposes. Our purpose is to disarm the Americans and let them fall asleep."3
Furthermore, relations are getting warm and fuzzy between Russia,
China and India, particularly cozy for Russia and China. Counting
only the male portion of the population between the ages of 15
and 64 of these three countries, they could easily have a one
billion strong army. Add to that Russia's technology plus its
vast supply of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, this
trio would be formidable.
RUSSIA BACKS OFF? - DON'T BE FOOLED
Christian evangelist, Dr. Jack Van Impe, wrote in 1996 in "The
Russian Bear Is Back":
"As you read this article, 1400 factories all over Russia are manufacturing weaponry for a future war. These arms will be used. Despite official claims that the Red Army has been downsized to 2.3 million, intelligence sources tell us the real number is closer to 5 million.
"The Russians have one million KGB [now renamed the FSB] agents serving as interior guards. Moscow has reinstated the military draft. And the resurgent Russian bear is spending some forty-three percent of its gross national product on the military -- all the while feigning peace and love."4
Russia signed a treaty in 1997, pledging to destroy 40,000 tons
of chemical weapons and close 24 storage and production sites
by 2007. However, the Russians are nicely skirting this issue
claiming the country is too broke to comply. In the meantime,
these WMD are available for use or sale.
Additionally, Russia produced a new generation of chemical weapons
at the same time circumventing the terms of a treaty it signed
prohibiting such actions. Under this program code-named "Foliant,"
Russian scientists created a highly lethal nerve agent called
A-232. According to a classified Pentagon intelligence report,
large quantities would only have taken weeks to manufacture.5 This was in April 1997. Think what they have now.
According to British Aerospace, Russia and China are jointly developing
a long-range missile" fast enough to catch any combat fighter
in the world." Since Putin has been in office, Russia's nuclear
defense policy has taken a major shift. While in one breath it
declares that the West is a "hostile power that must be resisted",
it simultaneously states they have lowered the threshold at which
they will use nuclear weapons.
Further straining U.S.-Russian relations is the recent hoopla
over the U.S. defense system. Russia, probably correctly, feels
it would give the west an advantage and Russia is hard-pressed
not to design new weapons to offset this edge. And the race is
on!
September 7th of this year, word was leaked by a highly placed
source in Russia's Ministry of Defense that Putin plans to cut
their troops by 400,000 to 800,000 by 2003.6 Right, and we all need a bridge in the desert. This is especially
hard to swallow in light of a report that came out just four days
before about Russia training children for war. The school children's military boot camps will train
them how to dig trenches and fire Kalashnikov rifles. They will
also participate in marching lessons and special courses on how
to react to crises such as impending nuclear attack, terrorist
bombs or hostage-taking. There will be special drills with gas
masks. Once boys reach the age of 15, they'll spend a week at
military training camp. Retired army officers will teach them
how to assemble and fire Kalashnikovs, use mortars, practice various
fighting techniques and dig trenches. Their reasoning? It will
"turn pupils into better citizens."7 (Would you like a snorkel and wet suit to go along with your desert
bridge?)
RUSSIA'S NASTY LITTLE SECRETS
Furthering our distrust of Russia, on Australia's September 10th
edition of 60 Minutes, one segment dealt with a Soviet secret - so secret that it was
unknown to virtually every Russian except those who live there
- Krasnoyarsk 26. You won't find Krasnoyarsk 26 on any map nor
on the tongue of many Russians. This lavish city was home to well-paid,
treated-like-royalty scientists. Thousands of these pampered people
spend a good portion of their lives one kilometer under a solid
granite mountain in the Russian no-man's-land of Siberia.
In 1956 the CIA got its first glance from a launched weather balloon
and in 1960, received its first satellite image of Krasnoyarsk
26. What they found was surprising. The CIA uncovered Krasnoyarsk
26's location due to the vast number of power cables running into
the city and disappearing into a huge mountain. Ditto for a train
track.
Another clue to their activities was an adjacent, freely flowing
river running through otherwise totally frozen landscape. This
anomaly tipped off the CIA that plutonium was being manufactured
underground in massive quantities and its heat byproduct was melting
their secret.
Richard Carleton, an American expert on Krasnoyarsk 26 shared
that these many miles of tunnels and roads and 3,500 separate
chambers housed an unbelievably huge manufacturing facility for
bombs including three nuclear reactors. At its peak, this facility
employed 8,000 people producing 100 tons of plutonium annually.
It was so well built, that this factory was designed to keep on
producing bombs even after nuclear Armageddon. Carlton stated,
"this is a level of insanity that even the United States never
quite matched."
So now that the cold war is over and we're supposedly buddy-buddy
with the "Redheads", one would think this facility would be shut
down, especially in light of their supposed poverty. But no, the
Russians are still madly manufacturing plutonium at an alarming
rate, roughly enough annually for 100 warheads. The facility must
stay open as the elegant city above ground depends on it for all
its power and heating.
It is this kind of extremism, combined with the philosophy of
the Communist Doctrine - ultimate world domination no matter how
long it takes - and its KGB (FSB) head of government, Putin, that
should make us sleep with both eyes open.
SACRIFICED FOR SECRECY
Additionally with Russia's sacrifice of 118 submariners in August,
we saw reinforcement of their extreme secrecy. In the early stages
of rescue efforts, American assistance was turned down. Eventually
it was learned that those sailors who didn't die directly from
the bomb blast slowly drowned.
Russia announced that it would be a year before their sub was
brought to the surface, but in the meantime, teams of three (two
Russians and one Norwegian) would continue to retrieve the bodies,
but the Norwegian must "wait outside". What do the Russians have
that they are so desperate to keep from the public eye?
While Russia may not be directly involved in terrorism, its support
of state-sponsored terrorist groups by selling them arms and machinery
is undeniable. More on this below.
3. SADDAM HUSSEIN
Where does one begin with this misguided piece of humanity. .
. It is unfortunate he must be part cat having at least nine lives.
Most notably and most horribly Saddam used chemical and biological
warfare against troops during the 1991 Gulf War.
Iraq still has a vast stock of NBC weaponry and repeatedly has
avoided UNSCOM checks after the war.
Though the U.S. State Dept. has labeled Iran the "premier state
sponsor of international terrorism," it is in good company along
with Cuba, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan and Syria.

In 1997 when Hussein turned 60, he reportedly became obsessed
with his own mortality ordering scientists to make a Saddam clone.8 Thankfully this feat is a little more difficult than cloning
sheep, cattle or pigs.
We are edging ever closer this year to Saddam's dream of the Frankenstein
technology by probing public psyches on cloning human embryos.
Saddam had better hustle along his cloning process as reports
surfaced three weeks ago that he has advanced lymphatic cancer.
Stan and I are having a hard time mustering much sympathy.
Suddam Hussein is more than capable of fighting dirty. His own
countrymen know that fact best.
4. THE TALIBAN
What a surprise. For once in history, the United States, China,
Egypt, France, India, Iran, Israel and Russia found a common enemy
- the Taliban. Why is this the case when the Taliban primarily
terrorize Afghanis? Because they are widely accused of sheltering
terrorists plotting attacks on Americans, Indians and Russians,
among others.
The Taliban emerged innocuously enough in 1994 with their publicly
stated goal of ridding Afghanistan of its problems and uniting
it under Islamic law. Reality showed them to be a militia using
a mixture of Kalashnikovs, twisted Islam, foreign money, torture,
and opium to get its way. They are now in control of Kabul, Afghanistan's
capital, as well as 2/3 of the country though some estimates put
it as high as 86%. Clearly their tentacles of terrorism are reaching
beyond the borders of Afghanistan. Tajikistan's President Emomali
Rakhmanov said he fully expects the Taliban to invade his country
if it controls Afghanistan.
The Taliban are extreme even when compared to other extremists.
They are positively phobic about television and brown paper bags
since a bag might have been made from the paper of a recycled
Koran. Since the Taliban gained control, they have set human rights
back at least 100 years. Their inhuman cruelty to women is legendary
and the Taliban harbor one of the world's most dangerous terrorists,
Osama bin Laden.
Even a short list of the charges leveled at the Taliban from outside
the U.S. is impressive:
RUSSIA - claims the Chechen separatists received training and materiel
from the Taliban. More seriously (and less substantiated), Russia
has accused bin Laden of helping direct a wave of bombings in
Moscow and other cities last summer killing over 300 civilians.
INDIA - accused the Taliban of helping train Islamic militants who
regularly infiltrate Kashmir. Multiple-death acts of terrorism
are a weekly event in that region and one group trained on Taliban
territory nearly touched off a full-scale war last summer when
it occupied mountain passes claimed by India.
FRANCE - traced bin Laden funds to Algeria's Armed Islamic Group (GIA),
which has engaged in a gruesome civil war with that North African
nation's military that has claimed up to 100,000 lives. Algerian-related
attacks in France over the past five years have taken over 20
lives.
CHINA - accused the Taliban of fostering Islamic radicalism in Xinjiang
Province and supplying the region's heroin syndicates to fund
Islamic militant violence. Several fatal bombings in China were
blamed on the Taliban in 1998-99.
IRAN - came very close to war with the Taliban last year after nine
Iranian diplomats and a journalist were slain and mobs of pro-Taliban
Sunni Muslims went on a killing spree of Shiites in Herat. Mostly
Shiite, Iran views itself as a protector of the Shiite minorities
in neighboring states. The Taliban's rulers are Sunni Muslims.9
- Acts of Afghan terrorism have occurred in Afghanistan, Canada,
Egypt, Ethiopia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Pakistan, the
United States and Yemen.
5. AUM SHINRIKYO - the "supreme truth"

Aum Shinrikyo was founded in 1984 by a half-blind acupuncturist with deadly goals. Its belief system mixed primitive Buddhism, Indian mysticism and bits of Christianity. "He taught his disciples that killing people who had committed 'sins' was an act of salvation. That eventually applied to all people living in the modern world and became his justification for indiscriminate mass murder."10 Asahara declared himself to be the reincarnation of the Hindu
god of destruction, Shiva and has done well to live up to that
title.
On March 20, 1995 Aum cult members simultaneously released sarin nerve gas on several Tokyo subway trains, |
killing12 persons and injuring up to 6,000 people. The group was also responsible for nerve gas murders in Matsumoto, Japan which killed another seven people in 1994. At least another ten terrorist attacks using biological agents were unsuccessful.
The Aum Shinrikyo group murdered counter-cult lawyer Tsutsumi
Sakamotom, his wife and child in November 1989. When several of
its cult members wanted out, these people also wound up dead.
Japanese police arrested Asahara in May 1995 where his trial continues,
possibly for years to come. Yasuo Hayashi, nicknamed "The Killer",
and Masato Yokoyama have been sentenced to hang for their part
in the sarin gas subway murders.
In 1997 and 1998, the cult resumed recruiting activities in Japan and opened several commercial businesses. Their estimated revenues top $1 billion and they have acquired over 100 tons of equipment for production of chemical and biological weapons, through a network of front companies and agents overseas. In addition to sarin, this group has VX, cyanide, anthrax, botulinum and possibly Q-fever and Ebola. Aum has purchased a Russian military helicopter plus two drone aircraft intended to be equipped with sprayers for disseminating chemical and biological agents over major Japanese cities.
With their vast wealth, there is also concern that the Aum may
have acquired one or more of Russia's 43 missing "suitcase" nukes.

In recent years, Aum Shinrikyo has become very cozy with Russia. After Aum donated many computers and medical supplies, plus $14 million in cash, Russia threw wide its doors and made available |

to them every possible venue for recruiting members. Russia also endorsed Aum's weekly television program. As a result, Russian recruits swelled to the thousands.
At the time of the Tokyo subway attack, the group claimed to have
10,000 members in Japan and up to 40,000 in Russia plus others
worldwide. Its current strength is unknown. Aum still operates
in Japan and has cells in Australia, Germany, Russia, Sri Lanka,
Taiwan, Ukraine, the United States and former Yugoslavia.
The Aum maintains an Internet homepage that indicates Armageddon
and anti-US sentiment remain a part of the cult's world view and
their goal is to take over Japan.
IS ALL THIS READINESS NECESSARY?
Judging just from events of the past 36 hours, one can't help
feel the need.
Seven U.S. sailors are dead, 36 injured and 10 are missing-presumed dead after two terroristsattacked the USS Cole, a Navy destroyer, in the port city of Aden, Yemen.
About 12:15 PM local time, a massive explosion ripped a 30 foot
high by 40 foot wide cavern in the port (left) side of this 505-foot-long
(194 m) warship. Flooding was contained despite the blast hole
occurring at water level damaging the engine room, crew galley
and chief petty officers mess. This $1 billion guided missile
destroyer equipped with sophisticated Aegis weaponry is now listing
in the water. She is still seaworthy and will be towed back to
the U.S. where she is home-ported in Norfolk, Virginia.

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?
Though the USS Cole's four to six hour refueling stop was not
widely publicized, it was a common stop for U.S. Navy ships. Prior
to the explosion, a small boat had assisted the Cole with its
mooring lines. Then the small boat pulled along side and rammed
the USS Cole in a suicide mission. Witnesses saw the two occupants
standing at attention just prior to ramming the destroyer as it
blew up. Reports coming in state that the terrorists are not accounted
for. No doubt. They would have been blown to smithereens by such
a tremendous blast. In the port-side Rock Hotel, the explosion
blew out 21 of their 33 rooms' windows. TVs were knocked off their
stands and broke. People at the Rock described the explosion as
being so loud that they thought it had come from within the hotel.
Since warped Middle Easterners think there is no more sure-fired
way to meet Allah than killing Westerners, their upbringing would
urge them to carry out such a task without so much as a blink.
It was originally thought that Osama bin Laden masterminded this
attack as his father is Yemeni so there are strong ties to this
country. However, radical Muslim group called Mohammed's Army
has now claimed responsibility. "They claimed they are going to
take hostages and they claim they want to continue bombing all
American and British embassies,"11 Sheikh Omar Bakri, member of another Muslim group called the
Sharia Court of the United Kingdom. Mohammed's Army wants Jews
to leave Yemen and warned that Britons, Americans and Israelis
would be targeted.
They may have already made good on this promise as a British embassy
in Sanaa, Yemen was bombed this morning shattering windows. Thankfully,
no one was injured. As a result, the U.S. ordered embassies in
Africa, the Middle East and South Asia to close until next week.
Anti-American sentiment has risen in the Arab world where protesters
condemned the U.S. for support of Israel's actions during the
last two weeks of deadly clashes with Palestinians.
Extremists and anti-Western terrorists present a constant problem
for Yemen's government. Security forces have been on alert since
16 tourists, including four Americans, were abducted in late 1998
by an anti-Western group. Four of these tourists, three Britons
and one Australian, died in a gunfight between the kidnappers
and security forces.
"The U.S. and Yemeni governments have regularly warned that American
tourists aren't safe in the country. The State Department advises
taking armed guards when driving between cities, and identified
Yemen as one of four countries where anti-American terrorism was
on the rise in 1999."12
Since the embassy bombings in Africa a scant two years ago, the
Pentagon has spent $2 billion on counterterrorist measures. Even
more recently, we've seen the TOPOFF 10-day mock NBC drills as
well as the continuation of Domestic Preparedness program of "training
the trainers" in top 120 cities in America. This year, the FBI
announced 'a major restructuring' of its national headquarters
creating two new divisions to better deal with the increased threats
from terrorism and espionage.
"...it looks to the experts as if the 1990s rise of apocalyptic
sects and Islamic extremism has merged with the increasingly easy
availability of chemical and biological weapons that can kill
thousands in an attack. The potential for random murder and catastrophic
governmental disruption lies within reach of small, unsophisticated
and irresponsible groups of true believers. 'Nightmares are coming
true,' says Robert Kupperman, a terrorism expert at Washington's
Center for Strategic and International Studies.
'I think we're in for deep trouble.' "13
Now that we've looked at recent events of terrorism and the likelihood
of more acts of terrorism and we've seen who are some of the players,
in Part 3 we will look at "NBC Overview and How To Protect Yourself" - biological and chemical weapons.
