Preparedness Pays Off!

Stan and Holly:

I am in the Hurricane Katrina zone. I am a state court judge here. I have a wife and two children (one of whom has Type 1 diabetes). I just had my power restored.

I heard ya’ll on Coast To Coast several years ago. I taped the show and have followed advice on your web site RELIGIOUSLY. I made a “bug out” bag, have a 55 gallon drum  and 5 drums filled H20 (with preserver). Additionally, I have a “Big Berkley” water filter. I have MRE’s.  and canned goods. Well you get the idea. The final addition was a 6kw DIESEL generator I bought about 6 weeks ago and stored 2 (55) gallon drums of diesel (with PRI-D) in an outbuilding. I have a 2 month supply of all medicine and a 3 month supply of my child’s insulin.

Anyway, my point is to say THANKS for all of your information. While I have very little damage to my house, my preparedness has allowed me to help others (as I put away a little extra for others). You bet, the day after the storm, friends who should have know better had no ice, gasoline, milk, etc. I was able to help a little. People need to remember the ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER by Aesop. Please get on Coast to Coast again pushing planning and preparedness. If you excluded the generator and the load transfer switch, even a poor person can prepare.

Black-eyed peas and rice store well and are cheap. But everyone in the USA has to get off there fannies and prepare. It is had work. I was preparing months ago when other were “playing”. My advice is DO NOT RELY ON Uncle Sam or you may wind up starving at the mercy of the government.

By the way, you may read or post this letter, just don’t use my name as I could be identified pretty easily by some of the numerous criminals that I have had to put in prison.

Excuse the typos—I am exhausted and can't find my reading glasses. Should have about 5 pairs. Need to make a note of that.

Thanks Again
JJ
