amillennial(prefix "a," means "no"). The belief that there will no literal 1000 year reign of
Christ except for that which is currently in progress. This viewpoint contends that Satan is bound
at present and Revelation 20 is taken symbolically. Old Testament Zion generally refers to the
Christians church making no sharp distinction between Israel and the Church.

apocalypseFrom Greek word apokalupsis meaning revelation, unveiling, or uncovering. The
visible appearing of Jesus to the world in full power and splendor. Also refers to the appearance
of the antichrist on the stage of history following the rapture (2 Thess. 2). Revelation is an
apocalyptic book (revealing the future).

apocryphaFrom Greek word apokruphos meaning hidden, denotes things concealed.


apostasyA "falling away". Usually indicates a professed Christian who deliberately and
knowingly rejects Christ.

Day of the LordBefore this time, the judgments have completed. The period begins with the
Second Coming of Christ closing Tribulation, includes the battle in the valley of Megiddo
(Armageddon) and continues through the Millennial or Messianic Age (the 1000 years of peace).

Dispensationalism. Teaching that history is divided into various time periods or ages during
which man is tested with respect to obedience to a revelation of God's will. Some schools teach there are only three or four ages; others divide these periods into seven ages: innocence, conscience, human government, promise, law, grace and the Kingdom.

Dominion Theology. Teaching that the church is responsible for taking over the world in the name and power of Christ. Associated with "reconstructionism," also known and "theonomy."
