WHERE OH WHERE WAS SLEEP?
My interest in UFOs had diminished greatly over the years to the
point of near-boredom. On various talk shows, people discussed
the same tired topics which always brings on an attack of the
yawns.
"I saw a black triangle and it glowed with orange lights till
it shot off at right angles. It didn't make a sound!" OR "I saw
a disk with windows all around which paced my car for several
miles. It filled the vehicle with an eerie light, but strangely
enough, I wasn't afraid. When I looked at my watch, two hours
had passed! What happened to those two hours??"
If Stan and I had witnessed these craft firsthand or occasioned
to meet these off-worlders, maybe our attitude would be different.
Regardless, I enjoyed Dr. Jacobs' easy, articulate manner and
looked forward to what he had to share. At least he would provide
some interesting fodder until sleep claimed these stubborn eyelids.
Art Bell introduced his guest as "one of the only people to ever suggest that the visitations that we're getting from elsewhere may not be the warm fuzzy little guys so many people imagine them to be. The guys waiting with the needles and probes may not be who you want them to be."2
With that titillating intro, sleep sailed out the window.
BIO SKETCH
It's important to understand that Dr. Jacobs is a highly respected, solidly credentialed academic - not some fuzz-brain who's slurped too many acid tabs. He is Associate Professor of History at Temple University specializing in twentieth century American history and culture. Dr. Jacobs began researching the UFO controversy in America in the mid-1960's, and amassed over 35 years of research data and analytical hypotheses on the subject.

As the abductees that Dr. Jacobs interviewed recounted their experiences often they have been described as neutral or sometimes even enjoyable. "By far, however, the most prevalent type is disturbing and traumatic."5 If our "space brothers" kidnap humans and force them to undergo painful, humiliating and emotionally devastating experiences, it's impossible to conceive of them as friends.Continue
